Decades of precision in the service of medicine

20.08.2024

Braunform GmbH, based in Bahlingen a. K. in Baden, Germany, is a pioneer in medical technology in its field. The combination of pharmaceutical and technological expertise makes Braunform an important partner for medical production. At FAKUMA 2024, the company will be presenting an injection mold that reflects the company's expertise in an impressive way.

In detail, an 8-cavity injection mold was designed specifically for the production of insulin pen housings. The 8-cavity pilot mold made it possible to test and optimize the article and mold design and ultimately resulted in a 32-cavity production mold. Thanks to synchronized mechanical movements in combination with a horizontal article, direct injection with valve gate is possible. The injection mold is characterized by a high level of user-friendliness. Production is efficient and precise. The additional ejector stage controls the movement of two mini slides. A very space-saving and compact design is achieved as a result.

Joachim Stiller, General Manager of Braunform GmbH, emphasizes: "Our injection mold represents both our long-term experience in the field of medical technology and our commitment to innovation. We are proud to offer our customers high-quality and reliable solutions that meet their requirements for effective and sustainable production processes."

The technology and design of the mold are based on two core competences of Braunform GmbH: Lift&Strip²® technology and the MED Mold® standard, which is established in the company since 2010.

The original Lift&Strip²® technology patented by Braunform: An outstanding feature of the mold is the Lift&Strip²® technology. The movement initiated by the machine ejector lifts and strips the article at the same time. This innovative solution optimizes the production process and increases production efficiency.

How does Lift&Strip²® work? The Lift&Strip²® technology makes it easier to operate the stripping strip and reduces the cycle time. Thanks to a movable forced guidance system, the stripping strip moves synchronously with the mold opening. Previously, the mold was opened and the stripping strip was actuated with a separate drive. Now this drive is no longer required and two processes are combined into one.

Advantages of Lift&Strip²®:

  • Optimized gating options: The system enables a horizontal lengthwise arrangement of the article. This means that side-gate applications can be avoided and classic valve gate applications can be implemented without any problems.
  • Quality optimization: With the horizontal arrangement, less problems with flash formation occur compared to slider molds. The horizontal arrangement also enables higher gate qualities.
  • Time, cost and space savings: The Lift&Strip²® system synchronously lifts the load-bearing core and strips the molded part at the same time. This saves time, mold costs and installation space.
  • Thanks to lateral demolding by strippers, no additional ejectors or markings are required on the article.
  • The guidance design enables a wide range of stripping speeds to be realized.
  • Implementation in the multi-component area is possible without any problems.

The challenge is to mechanically couple the stripping movement. The movement of the machine ejector is redirected into a transverse movement via the guidance.

Mold according to MED Mold® standard: The Braunform MED Mold® is a concept for the safe use of injection molds in cleanrooms, which is based on the company's more than 25 years of experience in medical technology and production in cleanrooms. It was specifically developed for medical and pharmaceutical applications and takes into account the challenges of the use of injection molds in cleanrooms. This standard defines in detail various mold specifications and their use according to ISO cleanroom classes. The team of specialists at Braunform GmbH fully integrated the MED Mold® standard into the company in June 2010. With this know-how, Braunform offers its customers in the medical technology industry low wear and low particle injection molds and - if required - safe and efficient production of plastic articles.

"With more than 25 years of experience in the field of medical technology and production in cleanrooms, we are proud to further support our medical technology customers in the safe and effective production of their plastic articles," says Joachim Stiller, General Manager of Braunform GmbH.
